Hello, my feminist friends! Have you seen that trend going around about picking an inspiring word to describe your 2019? Well, here’s mine.
I realize I probably should have posted this in January, but I have just had a lot going on. Cut me some slack, okay? I saw a photo on Pinterest that said: “Human – kind. Be both.” This struck me, because I have found myself saying, “be a kind human” a lot lately. I was always so honored when my friends, family, or strangers would tell me that I’m kind/nice. I never thought of myself as the sweetest person, especially when I was younger. However, I always try to be as kind as possible to every human or animal I meet, so maybe there is some truth to that.
I never know how to take a compliment, either. How do you agree without sounding like a narcissist? Disagreeing, which I do most of the time, can also give you a negative opinion of yourself which is damaging too. However, I find that something as easy as a smile in one person’s direction can change their entire day. A compliment, a hello, a soft glance. Small actions can create a ripple effect that turns around someone’s life.
As I’m sure you all know, if you’ve read my last blog post , 2018 was not my year. At all. I struggled a lot. When January 1st came around, I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I still have been dealing with some intense medical stuff that has been bringing me down. I haven’t found my dream job, and I’m not sure where I’m going to be moving this year. Somehow, though, I’m oddly positive. I have received so much love and kindness from the people in my life, and my friends over on Instagram . That’s what I believe in.
We all have the power to be kindness. We can all bring light into the dark spaces. We can love, because love is the best thing we do. I challenge you to be a kind human this year. Go out of your way to spread positive vibrations. Tell your loved ones you love them. Smile at strangers.
