Services I Offer

Hello, my feminist friends! Today, I’m frustrated, and a little bit manic. I’ve been blogging now since 2015, and it’s still not my career? I’m about to spill all the tea that the mommy bloggers won’t.

So, you want to be a blogger. That sounds fun, right? Maybe you’ll travel the world and write about it. Maybe you’ll take photos of your little ones and talk about what it’s like to be a parent. Somehow, this little hobby with become your six figure career. Right? Wrong.

When I set out to be a blogger, it was mostly to add published pieces to my portfolio. I wrote about college hacks, how to save money, etc. I did a couple collabs, and really had no idea what I was doing. I did some research on how to make it as a blogger, and thought if I followed those instructions I’d be set. I then got rejected by Google adsense, and realized that my content was just not good enough. I started writing for other outlets instead (all unpaid, mind you!) but my heart was never in it. Finally, I fell into feminism and something seemed to stick.

However, (and this is one BIG however) I’ve had this blog for 4 years and I have only made $10 off it alone. That’s not even enough money for a cash out from Adsense. I can’t sustain my lifestyle doing this! Boy, do I want to.

Soon after I started blogging I learned that social media would play a huge part in driving traffic to my blog. I learned all the tips and tricks of the trade, with a little help from my friend Annabelle . I leaned on her heavily when we first met for all the social media tips. How to plan a feed, how to work with brands, etc. We went through a lot together! And now I’m sitting at 3k followers on Instagram , and 39k-60k viewers on Pinterest . So, why don’t I have any money to show for it? I put in all this work, and for what?

To be honest with you, I still don’t know. I like to write, and I’m passionate about feminism. I found a love for social media branding and marketing. I don’t know if I’ll ever make it as a full time blogger, and that’s okay. I’m a content creator, a micro-influencer, a human that believes in equality and empowering others through the written word.

So, what do I plan on doing? Honestly, I’ve slacked on uploading and creating consistent blog content, because I felt like I would never succeed. It’s not easy. If you don’t fit into a popular niche (cooking, mommy bloggers, travel, etc) it’s hard to make it as anything. Most of us have full time jobs, or we’re students with side gigs. I currently work at a yoga studio, and am always looking for work in social media or writing. (Hit me up if you’re hiring!) I would LOVE more than anything to make it as a feminist blogger, but the truth is, most of us won’t. And that’s okay. It’s like any other competitive profession.

But if you’ve made it this far, I love you already. Thank you for reading, and let me know if you sympathize! I’m writing this because I wish someone else had when I put all this time and effort into this, thinking it was going to be my career. And who knows? Maybe it still could be. I’m not here to be negative, but rather honest in how things went down in my personal experience.

If you’re thinking about starting a blog, do it! Do it for you, do it because you’re passionate and want to share you’re story. I’m sending you all my love and positive energy, and I hope you make it big. Just know, it’s much more work than you’ll ever expect, and could have little reward. But if your hearts in it, that’s all that matters.

You see other people doing it and finding immense success, but then there you are. It gets especially stressful when you want to do it full time. Sending a blogger prayer to you and me. Reply Katiee Rose says: March 27, 2019 at 1:47 pm I would love to be a blogger full time, and it’s hard not to compare yourself! But I believe in you bb, we got this. Maybe one day. 😉 Reply

Annabelle says: March 28, 2019 at 4:15 pm Hi I see my mention and I love you! Social media is hard. Everyone shares their highlights (myself included) and it tends to look so easy. I’m still dreaming about becoming a full time blogger, but I definitely have to accept that it’s not a guaranteed, that it’s a lot of hard work, and that I need to be comfortable with having a back up plan and doing this on the side. Thanks for being honest Katiee. Love you much! xx annabelle | http://www.mixed-hues.com Reply
