☕ (and feminism)

This space began as a simple love letter to coffee and grew into something far more layered, much like the drink itself. What started as a place to share thoughts on music, reading, and the quiet moments that shape a week has become a home for conversations about feminism, mental health, and what it means to move through the world as a woman today. The name itself holds a wink, because every great story starts somewhere small, and for many of us, that somewhere is a warm mug held between both hands on a slow morning.

There is a thread that runs through everything written here, connecting the personal to the political. Whether the topic is anxiety and panic attacks, the complicated joy of concerts and safe spaces, or the way certain songs arrive exactly when we need them, each piece is offered with honesty and care. This is a space that welcomes the messy, the unfinished, and the honest, because healing is rarely a straight line. It is often more like a winding road with plenty of stops for reflection, conversation, and another cup of something warm.

Feminism is not an abstract idea in these pages; it is lived, felt, and spoken about in the everyday. From the way we navigate friendships and family expectations to the work of supporting women-owned businesses and amplifying marginalized voices, the writing here treats feminism as both a lens and a practice. It is about asking bigger questions, finding light in darker seasons, and refusing to shrink. It is also about joy, pleasure, and the freedom to enjoy music, art, and love without apology.

Mental health shows up again and again, not as a clinical topic but as a deeply human one. Anxiety, panic attacks, the search for grounding, and the slow work of healing are explored with the kind of tenderness that comes from lived experience. The writing acknowledges that some days are harder than others, and that is okay. There is no pressure to perform wellness here, only an invitation to keep going, to reach for community, and to remember that none of us are alone in the struggle, even when it feels that way.

This is also a space about the things that make life feel full: music that gets under your skin, books that stay with you long after the last page, friendships that sustain, and the small rituals that keep us anchored. There is a weekly letter, a portfolio of written work, and a growing collection of resources for those seeking connection and community. Whether you found this place through a shared love of coffee, feminism, or simply a good playlist, you are welcome here. Stay tuned, read along, and know that there is always room for one more at the table.

A warm, cozy coffee-shop corner with a steaming ceramic mug on a wooden table, soft golden light spilling across the surface, and a well-worn paperback nearby — deep browns, cream, and muted amber tones.

About Katiee Rose

I'm Katiee Rose. I'm probably drinking coffee and listening to 90s alternative music. Ask me about my feminist agenda.

I started my blog because I wanted to be able to write about anything, and gain the experience of having published work. Life Starts With Coffee was originally a blog for the relatable college student — highly caffeinated and constantly hurting for cash. Then, as my passion for feminism grew, it evolved into something more.

I'm passionate about coffee, feminism, literature, and music. I aspire to be like Gloria Steinem. Based in Atlanta, I've used this space to explore everything from bisexuality and eating disorder recovery to astrology, mental health, and social justice.

When I'm not writing, you'll find me at a concert, hanging out with my rabbit Florence, or dreaming up the next blog post over yet another cup of coffee.

How the Blog Started

Life Starts With Coffee began around 2015 as a way to build a portfolio of published writing. What started as a relatable college-student blog — fueled by caffeine and tight budgets — grew into a feminist platform where I could speak honestly about the issues that mattered to me.

Over the years, I've written about sexual assault awareness, bisexuality, eating disorders, mental health, music, astrology, and the realities of being a blogger. I've also volunteered at a rape crisis center and worked at a domestic violence shelter — experiences that deepened my commitment to feminist advocacy.
